Apis Mellifera Ligustica - The Italian Honey Bee

Part of my time is spent in the south-eastern part of Sweden where I have a small cabin hidden in a forest. I have three bee hives there and just like my bees in the UK, I manage my Swedish hives in the most natural way that I can.

The bees are a different variety than the ones I keep in the UK but are still calm and placid and easy to work with.
The forest surrounding the hives mainly consists of pine and spruce trees together with aspen and birch. The Swedish bees produce different types of honey - a very pale, floral honey during the early summer months and a darker, richer honey at the end of the summer where the bees forage on heather within the forest glades.

The beekeeping season in Sweden is shorter and more intensive due to the colder climate and longer summer days.
